After graduating from Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo, Minoru Yoshizawa
completed his studies at the Orff Institute in Salzburg as a DAAD
scholarship student. On an Austrian government scholarship, he majored in
recorder at The Mozarteum Academy of Music and Performance in Salzburg and
graduated with a soloist diploma. He studied the flute under Helmut
Zangaleat and Rene Le Roy, recorder under Felicitas Keldorfer and Walter
Bergmann, and Early Music Performance and Musicology under Nikolaus
Harnoncourt.
Yoshizawa was flautist of the Mozarteum Orchestra and The
Austrian Ensemble for New Music, and performed in Salzburg’s contemporary
music festival ASPEKT, and took part in performances with Herbert von
Karajan, and with Rudolf Nureyev.
After returning to Japan, he hosted the
program The Recorder Sings on NHK (Japan's national broadcaster)’s
education channel for 11 years, as well as Enjoy Hobbies on the same
channel.
Yoshizawa is Guest Lecturer at the College of Music and Performance
Arts in Vienna, and at the Mozarteum Academy of Music and Performance in
Salzburg. He also holds a part-time teaching post at the Tokyo University of
the Arts, and at Yokohama National University.
He has made numerous
recordings for CDs, DVDs, movies, and TV commercials, and authored more than
50 books.
Yoshizawa regularly performs in Japan and overseas, and works in
cooperation with overseas NGOs and JICA to provide independence support for
children in need of relief. He also leads the ensemble ‘La Strada,’ which
continues to premiere contemporary music. This seasoned musician has
received the Art Incentive Award from Shizuoka Prefecture.
