There are quite a few amateur recorder players
in Japan and most of them play in groups. I will introduce my recorder
courses now.

Shizuoka Music Hall AOI
"AOI Minoru Yosizawa Recorder Course"
"AOI Recorder Orchestra"
In 1995, when the newly built Shizuoka Music Hall AOI started their
activities, this recorder course started. We offer two courses,
one for primary schoolchildren, the other for junior high school
students and older. The fixed number is 30 but applicants are always
over 200, so we have to choose them by lottery. The citizens of Shizuoka
Prefecture have such a great interest in the recorder. I am all
the happier because I am from Shizuoka! The graduates from these
courses have made "AOI Recorder Orchestra", which is now playing
quite high level pieces. Each course is held once and the orchestra
practices twice a month. The representative of the orchestra is
Mr.Humihiko Sano, a police officer of Shizuoka Prefectural Police,
who drives a patrol car when he is on duty.

Koidegou Bunnka Kaikan
"Minoru Yosizawa Recorder Seminar"
This seminar started when Koidegou Bunnka Kaikan was built. When
I visited my recorder student Ms Sachiko Hidari, an actress, I happened
to meet Mr. Niwayama, the manager of this Bunka Kaikan and also
a doctor. After I listened to his idea about lifelong education
and his intention for the future activities, I willingly chose to
cooperate with him. Mr. Sakurai, the director, is also a guitar
player. Mr. Enomoto, a member of the culture committee, always has
splendid ideas. Ex-principal Ohara, just retired from his job as
the head of the Niigata Recorder Educational Association, has taken
charge as a producer and now is teaching the recorder twice a month,
and I once a month. It is a heart warming course where small children
and elderly people can form a harmonious whole.

CONSORT MINORE |
|
Mrs. Kokeguchi, Aobadai Yokohama; Founded: 1993.Membership: 40. 2+ concerts/yr.
In November 1993, I was asked to give a lecture in the lifelong
education class of Midori Ward, Yokohama. After I talked a little
bit about world gossip, 40 people gathered to make a recorder ensemble.
Almost all were beginners, and starting with alto recorders , they
have now become able to play most wooden musical instruments. They
have appeared on Tokyo Cable TV, Aoba Ward Music Festival and Saturday
night concerts. In 1997, some of them attended the Japan Festival
held in the Wien Konzert Haus. The members are all women, mostly
housewives, except for one man, a member's husband, and are aged
from the thirties to the seventies. Their beautiful harmonies blended
with laughter and tears appeal to listeners' hearts.

SHIBUYA RECORDER

3+ concert/yr.
In 1980, when the Nagayado Branch of Shibuya Ward Education Center
was built for musical uses only, one of the first courses set was
this recorder ensemble. And it is still active! The members have
got older, naturally, but even one person who has moved to another
prefecture is still coming all the way to attend the course. Many
of them have performed in the Wien Konzert Haus. They practise every
week and I teach them once a month.
